Kneeling Ab Rollout
Practice controlled anti-extension trunk tension by rolling only as far as the marked range can return without losing the setup.

01 / Set up
Build the position.
- Place the wheel on a surface that lets it track inside a clear lane, then kneel on a mat with the hips stacked over the knees.
- Grip the handles, brace the trunk, and mark a starting distance and a range stop before the first repetition.
02 / Execute
Do the work.
- Roll the wheel forward while keeping the ribs and pelvis organized and the shoulders connected to the handles.
- Stop before the marked range causes the trunk to sag, the wheel to drift, or the return to become uncertain.
- Pull the wheel back by bringing the hips and trunk together, then reset the kneeling position.
Useful cues
Own the stop
Keep the lane
Return before control fades
03 / Troubleshoot
Common ways it drifts.
- Choosing a range because it looks long instead of because it can return
- Letting the wheel drift outside the marked lane
- Starting the next repetition before the knees, hips, and hands reset

What this page can claim.
Research can support a training category or expose a hazard without proving every stance, range, cue, or progression on this page.
3 evidence notes / 4 source linksResistance training is the supported category.
The 2026 ACSM position stand supports progressive resistance training for muscle function, hypertrophy, and physical performance in generally healthy adults, with multiple workable equipment and prescription choices.

Range and cues remain adjustable.
A systematic review found that resistance-training range can affect strength and lower-limb hypertrophy, while a separate review found that attentional-focus effects vary across lifting tasks and populations.

Trunk-control transfer is mixed.
A systematic review of 24 studies found mixed direct performance results and noted that core-stability work was often embedded inside broader training programs.
