Ring Push-Up

Train horizontal pressing while the ring height and hand position keep the range adjustable.

Training equipment arranged as distinct movement tools beside a bench
Context image, not form instruction. Use the setup, execution, safety, and evidence record below.

01 / Set up

Build the position.

  1. Set the rings just above the floor or at a height that allows a controlled return, then check both straps match.
  2. Place the hands in the rings and walk the feet back into a straight body line with the shoulders over the handles.

02 / Execute

Do the work.

  1. Lower the chest between the hands while the rings stay close enough to manage without twisting.
  2. Pause before the shoulders roll forward or the trunk sags below the chosen line.
  3. Press the rings away and return to the starting body line without losing the floor contact path.

Useful cues

Keep the rings inside the elbows

Move as one line

Press the handles apart

03 / Troubleshoot

Common ways it drifts.

  • Setting the rings too low to return safely
  • Letting the hands drift wider while the trunk loses its line

What this page can claim.

Research can support a training category or expose a hazard without proving every stance, range, cue, or progression on this page.

01

Resistance training is the supported category.

The 2026 ACSM position stand supports progressive resistance training for muscle function, hypertrophy, and physical performance in generally healthy adults, with multiple workable equipment and prescription choices.

02

Range and cues remain adjustable.

A systematic review found that resistance-training range can affect strength and lower-limb hypertrophy, while a separate review found that attentional-focus effects vary across lifting tasks and populations.
