Ring Support Hold
Practice supported bodyweight control with the rings held close and the feet available for a deliberate assistance boundary.

01 / Set up
Build the position.
- Set the rings at a height where the feet can reach the floor for an assisted entry and exit.
- Grip the rings, brace the trunk, and choose a support position that keeps the anchor and landing area visible.
02 / Execute
Do the work.
- Press the rings down and lift only as far as the shoulders and trunk remain organized.
- Hold the chosen support position while keeping the rings close to the sides and the elbows softly extended.
- Lower the feet or return to the floor before the rings drift or the exit becomes unclear.
Useful cues
Push down through the handles
Keep rings close
Choose the exit before the hold
03 / Troubleshoot
Common ways it drifts.
- Starting without a clear assisted entry or exit
- Allowing the rings to drift wide while trying to extend the hold
Exercise evidence field
What this page can claim.
Research can support a training category or expose a hazard without proving every stance, range, cue, or progression on this page.
3 evidence notes / 4 source linksResistance training is the supported category.
The 2026 ACSM position stand supports progressive resistance training for muscle function, hypertrophy, and physical performance in generally healthy adults, with multiple workable equipment and prescription choices.

Range and cues remain adjustable.
A systematic review found that resistance-training range can affect strength and lower-limb hypertrophy, while a separate review found that attentional-focus effects vary across lifting tasks and populations.

Trunk-control transfer is mixed.
A systematic review of 24 studies found mixed direct performance results and noted that core-stability work was often embedded inside broader training programs.
