Sled Push

Practice a controlled forward drive while the sled, surface, and stopping lane stay explicit.

01 / Set up

Build the position.

  1. Choose the sled, resistance or plate load, and surface that match the recorded manufacturer boundary.
  2. Mark a straight lane with a clear stop, turn, and return path, then set the hands at a height that preserves the trunk position.

02 / Execute

Do the work.

  1. Brace lightly, lean into the handles, and start with short steps that keep the sled centered in the lane.
  2. Drive the floor away without sprinting past the point where the feet, arms, or trunk lose control.
  3. Finish at the marked stop, lower the effort before turning, and return the sled only through the declared path.

Useful cues

Own the lane before the first step

Push the surface away

Stop before the turn changes

03 / Troubleshoot

Common ways it drifts.

  • Starting with a load or resistance that cannot be stopped in the marked lane
  • Letting the hips rise while the feet scramble for traction
  • Turning or returning across a person, wall, vehicle, or walkway

What this page can claim.

Research can support a training category or expose a hazard without proving every stance, range, cue, or progression on this page.

01

Resistance training is the supported category.

The 2026 ACSM position stand supports progressive resistance training for muscle function, hypertrophy, and physical performance in generally healthy adults, with multiple workable equipment and prescription choices.

02

Range and cues remain adjustable.

A systematic review found that resistance-training range can affect strength and lower-limb hypertrophy, while a separate review found that attentional-focus effects vary across lifting tasks and populations.
